Kathy is actively involved in building legislation in North Carolina for police reform. As a lobbyist, she daily protested and sent a complaint to ACLU-NC regarding civil liberties violations of inmates at the Cumberland County Detention Center, particularly when Sheriff Ennis Wright allegedly refused to provide masks and other safety precautions during the 2021 Coronavirus pandemic.

As the NC Director and Military Liaison for the National Domestic Violence Rally, she presented to the Legislative of Congress in DC on the reauthorization of the Lautenberg Amendment, demanding penalties for military commanders who allow their soldiers to violate protective orders by training with or possessing weapons. She also presented on the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) to encompass a "Violence Against People Act," ensuring all communities, including teenagers experiencing domestic violence, are included.
